An on-air announcement by host Robert Osborne last night set the dates for next year's TCM Classic Film Festival, beginning on April 28th and running to May 1st, 2011, in Hollywood. Turner Classic Movies (TCM) will return to Hollywood for the second TCM Classic Film Festival. Last night, TCM primetime host Robert Osborne exclusively revealed on-air that the 2011 edition of TCM’s four-day event will take place Thursday, April 28 – Sunday, May 1, 2011. The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, which has a longstanding role in movie history and was the site of the first Oscars® ceremony, will once again serve as the official hotel for the festival, as well as a central gathering point for attendees. Screenings and events will also be held at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, Mann’s Chinese 6 and the Egyptian Theatre.
“We’re all very excited about returning to Hollywood for our second TCM Classic Film Festival,” said Osborne said. “It’s another rare chance for TCM fans from all over the world to get together, see great films on the big screen and be in the presence of a wide variety of famous filmmakers. It will be all-new experience and, once again, an extraordinary celebration.”
Passes for the 2011 TCM Classic Film Festival will go on sale in November. The Hollywood Roosevelt will also offer special rates for festivalgoers.
In spring 2010, TCM successfully staged the first TCM Classic Film Festival, welcoming stars, filmmakers and fans from around the world. Many notable personalities appeared at the festival, including Mel Brooks, Luise Rainer, Ernest Borgnine, Alec Baldwin, Eva Marie Saint, Tony Curtis, Jean-Paul Belmondo, Martin Landau, Anjelica Huston, Danny Huston, Buck Henry, Eli Wallach, Esther Williams, Betty Garrett, Peter Bogdanovich, Stanley Donen, Norman Lloyd, Nancy Olson, Tim Roth, Illeana Douglas, Tab Hunter, Susan Kohner, Juanita Moore, Darryl Hickman, Curtis Hanson, John Badham, Richard Rush and special effects artist Douglas Trumbull.
The first TCM Classic Film Festival proved to be a destination event, with attendees traveling from 44 states and 10 countries and territories, including France, Poland, Romania, Argentina and Guam. The four-day event included screenings of more than 50 films, celebrity appearances, panel discussions and more. It also provided movie fans with a rare opportunity to experience some of cinema’s greatest works as they were meant to be seen – on the big screen. The festival featured numerous restored films, including the opening-night event, the world premiere of the restored A Star Is Born (1954), and the closing-night presentation, the North American premiere of the restored Metropolis (1927).
In the coming months, TCM will begin announcing films and special guests for the 2011 TCM Classic Film Festival, along with information about purchasing festival passes.
