Saltash, Plymouth and South Hams Area

These photos have been taken on my travels around the local area around Saltash, Plymouth and the South Hams area of Devon over the last few weeks.

 Mary Newman's Cottage in Saltash.  Mary Newman, who was the first wife of Sir Francis Drake is reputed to have lived in this cottage.

 Two views of the Clapper Bridge near the village of Pillaton not far from Saltash.  It is mostly described as an ancient bridge and is probably called Clapper as originally a clapper bridge may have been used on this crossing of the River Lynher.
Some more information about this river can be found at:

 Wacker Quay near Antony where the Wacker Lake joins the River Lynher.  This quay was built to land supplies for the nearby fort Tregantle.

 Some views of the Royal William Yard in Stonehouse, Plymouth, which was the former victualling yard for the Royal Navy and is named for King William IV.  The yard has long since ceased being used for this purpose and is being converted into luxury apartments.
