Today I have a review of a product from the Korean brand Etude House. I've already featured some Etude House products on the blog (for example, see my love for the Berry Delicious lippies here if you missed my review) but in case you don't know the brand (how is that even possible lol), it's a very famous Korean brand known for their universe inspired by princesses. They have a wide range of super cute makeup products and I have to say that their last skincare lines are very interesting (e.g., Honey Cera, Toning White C, True Relief lines). Among the new line is the Pink Vital Water line, a line that uses pink peach water as the star ingredient. I picked only the serum for the moment but the emulsion and cream seem also very nice (ingredient and texture-wise) and I will probably get them soon.
PINK VITAL WATER SERUM
WHAT IT IS:
According to Etude House, this serum uses a new concept of water drop essence to deliver moisture and revitalize the skin with energy.
It's a moisturizing serum that contains humectants (propanediol), emollients and slip agents (Hydrogenated Poly(C6-14 Olefin), Cyclopentasiloxane, Cyclohexasiloxane), and some antioxidant plant extracts, including peach extract. It also contains vitamins C and E.
This makes a nicely emollient antioxidant serum, perfect to fight oxidative stress responsible of skin aging.
PACKAGING:
It goes without saying that the packaging is super cute. I love the shape of the bottle and it's also super convenient that it is delivered via a pump. The serum is well protected from the light and air.
HOW IT LOOKS/FEELS/SMELLS:
It's a lightweight milky serum that spreads easily on skin. When spreading it, the texture of the serum changes. It looks more watery, creating droplets of what seems like water. I guess this is what Etude House means by "new concept of water drop essence".
It doesn't leave a sticky residue and is quickly absorbed.
It has a hint of flower scent with peach accents. I actualyl find the scent really pleasant and it kind of reminds me the scent of a peach tea I like drinking before going to bed :D By the way, the scent is not strong, is rather subtle.

INGREDIENT ANALYSIS:
The first ingredients are water, humectants, emolllients and slip agents to help spread the serum over skin. Then come the peach extract, a mixture of plant-based antioxidants as well as skin-repairing ingredients. Note that all the plant extracts used here contain known antioxidants and are not fragrant plant extracts that could be irritating. To be exact, the only plant extract I haven't found any scientific claim for is the sequoia extract, all the others do contains beneficial ingredients.
Three other interesting ingredients are Vitamin C (ascorbic acid), Vitamin E (tocopherol) and a Vitamin E derivative (tocopherol acetate). If you know me, you know I'm a huge fan of vitamin C in skincare products because it boosts collagen production, has lightening and brightening functions and reduces fine lines and wrinkles. Vitamin E is another powerful antioxidant.
I don't want to go too much into details but ascorbic acid is not very stable and I don't know how the serum was formulated and if it's still active in the preparation. Ascorbic acid is also sometimes used in low quantity to prevent oxidation of the preparation itself but I don't think that's the purpose here. So hopefully it's still active but I can't know.
Now a few words on the peach extract.
Did you know that peaches were believed to have mystical properties and grant longevity to those who would eat it. Therefore, peaches were traditionally associated with immortality and purity.
From a scientific point of view, peaches contain phenolic compounds, vitamin C and carotenoids, which have strong antioxidant properties. They also contain α-hydroxyacids (AHA), mainly malic acid, able to chemically exfoliate the surface of the skin. Other interesting components are carbohydrates. Carbohydrates are hygroscopic. They have the capacity to absorb water and contribute to preserve the hydric level of the skin. They can prevent loss of water and stop skin dehydration. In addition, some of them form a protective film on the skin, preventing and delaying transepidermal water loss and thus increasing the skin’s overall hydric level (1). I also found a couple of studies that show that in vitro Prunus persica extract can protect against UVB induced DNA damages (2, 3). So yes, peach extract seems pretty good :D
THOUGHTS:
I decided to buy this serum because I was impressed by the ingredient list which looked really promising. It does contain peach extract, plus vitamin C, E and a mix of antioxidant plant extracts. The serum is not very expensive (USD 14-20) but it is much better than a lot of luxury products. So good job, Etude House. The texture of the serum is also really pleansant, it's lightweight yet moisturizing and quickly absorbed. I've got the impression that it makes my skin more plump, healthy, and smooth. Finally the packaging is super cute and convenient so I think I can't ask for more! I'm really impressed and happy with this serum and would gladly repurchase it!
