SCREAM! So this is one of the dresses we can expect from THE collection of the year, I dread to think how much this is going to cost!It's amazing how far we have come that designers are bowing down to the High Street and acknowledging that not everyone can afford the Prada they deserve. It's interesting, I wonder if this is a recession-inspired tactic to encourage people to keep buying from the brand. If we hadn't had the meltdown we did in 2008, then would designers be collaborating? I don't know, given that Donatella herself said in 2008 that collaborations with the the high street wasn't the Versace way of doing things.
But that was pre-Lanvin, which, let's face it has changed everything. So why not let the big boys reduce their prices a little? The High Street has already had to do it, so why not the designers too? Well, the reason for that is, designers are luxe. If they reduce the prices they reduce the desire factor and bring their clothes out of being special and into the realm of everyone being able to afford them. So there you go, it's about keeping up the charade of being faaaaaaabulous daaaaaaarhling.....
